How it started

Ryanair Ltd. is an Irish low-cost airline founded in November 28, 1984 as Danren Enterprises. Danren Enterprises was later renamed as Ryanair after the name one of its founders, Tony Ryan. The other founders were Christopher Ryan and Liam Lonergan. It started its operations in 1985 with a 15-seater Embraer Bandeirante turboprop aircraft, with daily flights between Waterford and Gatwick Airport.

Today

Ryanair is known as Europe’s favorite airline; with more than 1,800 daily flights flying 117 million passengers from 84 bases connecting over 200 destinations in 33 countries. It operates with a fleet of 350 Boeing 737 aircraft. It also has 315 Boeing 737 on order. This will enable the airline to offer lower fares and increase their traffic to 180 million passengers by 2024.

He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin and later worked as a trainee at Stokes Kennedy Crowley (later known as KPMG), where he met Tony Ryan, to study the Irish tax system.  Mr. O’Leary was Ryanair’s deputy CEO between 1991 and 1994 and was promoted to chief executive in January 1994.  He is known as one of Ireland’s wealthiest businessmen.
